Four Simple Rules

For firing an employee in France.

1. Prove you can't afford the job

2. Prove he did a bad, bad thing

3. Pay him to scram

4. Put him in a cupboard and throw away the key

Then there is the fine print.

Don't Mess with a Texan

The Fat Guy looks at these demonstrations by illegals.
And he is pissed.

Piss off. This is America, Nativo. We route around problems, and don't sit home whining about them. What the hell can a Latino do that nobody else can do? What's pissing me off the most about this is this: the attitudes from stupid white people will inevitably harden into generalized dislike of the Latino, and a whole hell of a lot of people that I trade with & socialize with are going to get shafted. These are good Texans and Americans who followed all the little immigration rules, worked hard at becoming a viable part of our state and country, and dammit, they deserve better.

And don't mention Cinco de Mayo either.

Try This in Mexico

My 22 year old son passed along this from MySpace:

Try This in Mexico

1. Try driving around as a Gringo in Mexico with no
liability insurance, and have an accident.

2. Enter MEXICO illegally - never mind immigration quotas,
visas, international law, or any of that nonsense.

3. Once there, demand that the local government provide
free medical care for you and your entire family.

4. Demand bilingual nurses and doctors.

5. Demand free bilingual local government forms,
bulletins, etc.

6. Speak only English at home and in public and insist
that your children do likewise.

7. Demand classes on American culture in the Mexican
school system.

8. Demand a local Mexican drivers license. This will
afford other legal rights and will go far to legitimize your
unauthorized, illegal, presence in Mexico.

9. Insist that local Mexican law enforcement teach English
to all its officers.

Good luck!

It will not happen in Mexico or any other country
in the world except right here in the United States...
Land of those who want to take care of everyone
but American Citizens!

If you agree, pass it on.
If you don't, Please....go ahead and try all the
above in Mexico (and enjoy the prison there too...).

War in Sweden

Fjordman writes on the war on Sweden waged by immigrants.

The wave of robberies the city of Malmö has witnessed during this past year is part of a “war against the Swedes.” This is the explanation given by young robbers from immigrant backgrounds when questioned about why they only rob native Swedes, in interviews with Petra Åkesson for her thesis in sociology. “I read a report about young robbers in Stockholm and Malmö and wanted to know why they rob other youths. It usually does not involve a lot of money,” she says. She interviewed boys between 15 and 17 years old, both individually and in groups.

It's Not Just the Illegals

That challenge our nation's sovereignty. This is what our highest elected officials have to say about the demands of illegals.

Fabian Nunez, California assemblyman, at the Latino Summit Response to Prop 187 at U.C. Riverside (Jan. 14, 1995): "Each of you, get ten people to go with us on that march in Washington, D.C., and I guarantee you just as we mobilized 150,000 to the streets of Los Angeles on October 16, we will mobilize 1 million people and bring Washington to a standstill, and those rednecks that are out there making decisions for the betterment of their communities will think twice before they push forward anti- immigrant legislation against our community."

Then Assembly Speaker (California State Legislature) Antonio Villaraigosa, now Mayor of LA: "It's not enough to elect Latino leadership. If they're supporting legislation that denies the undocumented driver's license, they don't belong in office, friends."

We had better pay more attention to what these folks say when they are speaking Spanish.

It's all over by nursery school.

You have heard about the study claiming to predict political inclinations in nursery school? You know the one that says,

Remember the whiny, insecure kid in nursery school, the one who always thought everyone was out to get him, and was always running to the teacher with complaints? Chances are he grew up to be a conservative.

At least, he did if he was one of 95 kids from the Berkeley area that social scientists have been tracking for the last 20 years. The confident, resilient, self-reliant kids mostly grew up to be liberals.

Several bloggers havc questioned the study but Shrinkwrapped demolishes it.

Those evil carbs!

I have been avoiding carbs for some years now, first when the Atkins diet crase first surfaced but more recently several sources have recommended limiting simple carbs which can cause insulin shock and ultimately diabetes. Now comes some evidence that carb overloads may be the cause (or a supporting cause) for alzheimers.

I am getting very suspicious of the govenment agenda for medical treatments of symptoms with little or no evidence of causeality (like cholesterol). And the AMA and the drug companies pile right on.

Guest Workers, Good for America?

I havn't the knowledge to conclude on my own but my general thinking has been that cheap foreign labor is necessary to our economy (or at least that is the message I get from MSM). This illegal immigration quagmire would certainly be easier to escape if cheap labor was not necessary. Are we really dependent on cheap foreign labor for our future wellbeing? Robert Samuelson says hogwash.

He cites this example from the tomato growing industry:

Economist Philip Martin of the University of California likes to tell a story about the state's tomato industry. In the early 1960s, growers relied on seasonal Mexican laborers, brought in under the government's ``bracero'' program. The Mexicans picked the tomatoes that were then processed into ketchup and other products. In 1964, Congress killed the program despite growers' warnings that its abolition would doom their industry. What happened? Well, plant scientists developed oblong tomatoes that could be harvested by machine. Since then, California's tomato output has risen five times.

And he finds no benefit from importing poverty.

What we have now -- and would with guest workers -- is a conscious policy of creating poverty in the United States while relieving it in Mexico. By and large, this is a bad bargain for the United States. It puts stresses on local schools, hospitals and housing; it feeds social tensions (witness the Minutemen).

It's a good read for anyone confused by the arguments that our economy is dependent on illegals. Read it here.

Capitulation in Scandinavia

A new article in the Brussels Journal documents the colapse of freedom in Scandinavia.

In 2005 Stortinget, the Norwegian parliament, passed a new Discrimination Act. The act says in pretty clear words that in cases of suspected direct or indirect discrimination based on religion or ethnicity, native Norwegians are guilty until proven otherwise. The immigration spokesman for the right-wing Progress Party, Per Sandberg, feared that the law would jeopardize the rights of ordinary, law-abiding Norwegian citizens. Reverse burden of proof is combined with liability to pay compensation, which means that innocent persons risk having to pay huge sums for things they did not do. In 2005 the Norwegian police issued a mobile security alarm to Progress Party leader Carl I. Hagen. Hagen had criticized Islam, and could see no similarity with the concept of morality and justice found in Christianity. Hagen also said that if Israel loses in the Middle East, Europe will succumb to Islam next. He feels that Christians should support Israel and oppose Islamic inroads into Europe. In an unprecedented step, a group of Muslim ambassadors to Norway blasted Carl I. Hagen in a letter to the newspaper Aftenposten, claiming that he had offended 1.3 billion Muslims around the world. Other Norwegian politicians quickly caved in and condemned Hagen.

20 Million Muslims can't be wrong.

Oianna Fallaci has a new book - The Force of Reason. In it she questions how did Europe become home to 20 Million muslims in only 20 years.

How did Islam go from being a virtual non-factor to a religion that threatens the preeminence of Christianity on the Continent? How could the most popular name for a baby boy in Brussels possibly be Mohammed? Can it really be true that Muslims plan to build a mosque in London that will hold 40,000 people? That Dutch cities like Amsterdam and Rotterdam are close to having Muslim majorities? How was Europe, which was saved by the U.S. in world wars I and II, and whose Muslim Bosnians were rescued by the U.S. as recently as 1999, transformed into a place in which, as Fallaci puts it, “if I hate Americans I go to Heaven and if I hate Muslims I go to Hell?”

The LA Weekly has an interesting review of the book as well.

Yale Calling

Tonight, I got a call from Yale. The caller noted that I have given money to the University before and asked if I would give again.

Wrong question. I told him that I would not be giving any money to Yale while there was a Taliban spokesman studying at Yale. The caller (I am guessing him to be a student) seemed ignorant of any knowledge about this and asked how I knew about the Yale Taliban. I told him the web, and some newspapers, compeletely forgetting the TV coverage on Fox. I called this Taliban an enemy of our country and the caller asked how I know this. I told him that he was an official of the Taliban who harbored Osam Bin Ladin before the World Trade Towers were taken out and that, to my knowledge he had not expressed any regret about his or the Taliban's actions.
My impression is that the caller was taken completely out of his comfort zone by my response. They are good at the "I know that $1,000 is a lot of money but how about $500" response. I don't think they had prepared him for the Taliban defense. After I answered his questions, he just said thank you and goodbye.

Childless Adults are Leeches

Economics 101 applied to the decision to have children. When couples choose not to be parents, they force society to subsidize their existence.

Children are the producers of the future This means that children are in a sense a necessary economic good. [Update: I mean "good" in the sense of a created product like steel, not in the sense of a positive or negative] A society that does not produce enough children, or that cannot produce enough children who grow into economically productive adults, is doomed to poverty. Every long-term investment we make, whether in the private or public sector, is predicated on the idea that there will be a future generation which will actually produce a return. It doesn't matter what economic or political system rules the present, it will need children to secure its future. Even the most self-centered individual would eventual realize that if the next generation cannot produce, his own welfare will suffer.

This Just In From Yale

Recently there has been much buzz and criticism about the former spokesman for the Taliban studying at Yale. There has been little response or explanation for how this guy got into the country and why he should be taking up space at one of the most expensive schools in the country.

As Yale alumni, my wife an I get ocasional updates on doings in New Haven and what the university is doing that it thinks we will appreciate. Today, in an email, we learned this about Yale's Taliban:

Clarification
You may have read recently that a former press spokesman for the Taliban was attending Yale. The individual was approved by the U.S. government for a visa to study in this country. Yale has allowed him to take courses for college credit in a part-time program that does not award Yale degrees. Contrary to what has been reported by some in the media, he has not been admitted to Yale as an undergraduate.

Not really much useful information here except to say that it is the government who admitted him and that Yale will not award him a degree. This doesn't provide much comfort to me about Yale's part here. They did not have to take him, whether the government wants him here or not. And who in the government wants him here?

There is nothing inherently noteworthy about the results of this three year study of Antarctic ice trends. This is not to disparage the scientific work of Velicogna and Wahl. It is to suggest that their paper serves more as a initial investigation into some of the applications of observations of gravitational variations, rather than bearing any relevance to the issue of global climate change and its implications.

The Facts about CAIR

For years we have been hearing that CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) is a responsible voice for the moderate Islamic community. The facts are something different.

From Powerline today, a summary of the problems with that assessment. The authors of a recent Middle East Quarterly essay is titled : "CAIR: Islamists fooling the establishment." and says that,

*Perhaps the most obvious problem with CAIR is the fact that at least five of its employees and board members have been arrested, convicted, deported, or otherwise linked to terrorism-related charges and activities.

*CAIR has a number of links to Hamas.

*CAIR's founding personnel were closely linked to the Islamic Association of Palestine; the Islamic Association of Palestine functions as Hamas's public relations and recruitment arm in the United States.

*CAIR encourages law enforcement in its work -- so long as it does not involve counterterrorism.

*CAIR discourages Americans from improving their counterterrorism skills.

*CAIR has consistently shown itself to be on the wrong side of the war on terrorism, protecting, defending, and supporting both accused and even convicted radical Islamic terrorists.

*CAIR has a key role in the "Wahhabi lobby" -- the network of organizations, usually supported by donations from Saudi Arabia, whose aim is to propagate the especially extreme version of Islam practiced in Saudi Arabia.

*CAIR affiliates regularly speak at events sponsored by the Islamic Society of North America, an umbrella organization of the Wahhabi lobby.

*CAIR attempts to close down public debate about itself and Islam in several ways, starting with a string of lawsuits against public and private individuals and several publications.

*CAIR has a long record of unreliability and deceit even in relatively minor matters.

DINO Democrats in Name Only

We conservatives apparently lead a sheltered life with our comfortable environment of talk radio, Fox news and conservative bloggers like my Western Alliance comrades. Venture out to some of the communities beyond my comfort zone and you can learn amazing things. I know that Republicans have a big problem with elected officials who either don't believe in the party platform and the President or do believe that their constituents put them there to pander and porkbarrel to whatever passes as convential wisdom in MSM. The common name for these politicians is RINO - Republican in Name Only. Now, I find there is a Democrat equivalent.

In my web explorations today, I discovered that there are Democrats who have the same problem with their elected officials. They don't appear to have a term for them so I have taken the liberty of calling them DINO's (Democrats in Name only).

Who are these DINO's? Here is what I learned:

But then there are the lying republicrat faux Democrats, like Joe Lieberman, Ben Nelson, Hillary Clinton and Diane Feinstein.

I might have guessed Lieberman , but Clinton and Feinstein surprised me. And it tells you something about these people that the name they call DINO's is faux Democrats. Imagine a Republican even knowing what 'faux' means.

Two interesting Blog posts today tell a story about California. The first from Prestopundit tells how in 2005, there were more people leaving California than there were entering (legally at least).

The second talks about the high tax rates in California and a proposal to increase them further is driving people to move to Nevada.

What the two stories imply is that high income people are the ones leaving while the population growth is from births (and we know that high income people are not having kids). So what kind of population can we expect for California in the future as we drive out the income producers?

What is the Difference?

Today, everybody is talking about a Colorado High School teacher who taught geography by telling students that the United States is the worst country in the world and that Bush is the same as Hitler. One student questioned this practice and recorded a class for his father to hear. It has been all over the radio, TV and blogosphere today and nobody thinks the student was wrong to record the class.

Last month, however, when a group of UCLA alumni offered to pay students to record classes by extremist professors to show that they were indoctriating rather than educating, everybody jumped all over the alums, saying that they were politically motivated, immoral and vindictive.

What is the difference? In both cases, taxpayers are providing the salaries for these teachers and in both cases the recording was secret yet the kid is praised and the alum vilified. I thought the UCLA effort was a good one then and I still think so now.

San Francisco Leads

San Francisco's supervisors jumped into national politics Tuesday, passing a resolution asking the city's Democratic congressional delegation to seek the impeachment of President Bush for failing to perform his duties by leading the country into war in Iraq, eroding civil liberties and engaging in other activities the board sees as transgressions

If San Francisco didn't exist, we would have to create it. Where else can we count on political lunacy with such exquisite delicacy and finesse? These people can't even recognize that there is nobody following their lead.

The supervisors, in voting 7-3 for the resolution, made it likely that San Francisco again will become grist for radio and TV talk shows. The city has appeared in the national media spotlight recently for voters' passage in November of a nonbinding measure banning military recruiters from public high schools and for Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval's recent comment on a Fox News show that the United States doesn't need a military.
